Nan'ao Island travel diary and photo sharing!

Last weekend, I went on a road trip to Nan’ao Island with my college roommate. We drove from Shenzhen and took some photos to share. We passed through Shantou on Saturday when the typhoon had just left, and it was still raining heavily. On Sunday (September 21, 2025), the weather cleared up perfectly—great luck—and the photos turned out really well.

We drove around the island, visiting attractions such as the Tropic of Cancer Monument (“Nature’s Gate”) and Haiquan Bay. The coastal drive along the island loop road was beautiful and very soothing.

Due to the typhoon, few people visited, so the journey was smooth with no traffic jams. Nan’ao Bridge has only two lanes (one in each direction) and is relatively narrow, which usually leads to severe congestion during holidays.

One complaint I have is about Shantou’s traffic: e-bikes dart everywhere, change lanes without signaling, and even ride on fast lanes. Driving a car in Shantou requires constant caution—you never know when an e-bike might suddenly zip past from either side…
