Hong Kong travel log and photos

Last weekend, I met up with a friend to visit Hong Kong and took some photos to share.

On Saturday (May 30, 2026) morning, we set off from Shenzhen North to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. Taking the high-speed rail was quite fast, taking only 18 minutes to arrive. However, after arriving, we still had to go through customs, which took about ten minutes (when there are fewer people). I found a Bank of China ATM in the station to withdraw Hong Kong dollars directly (withdrew 1000 HKD, with a handling fee of around 20 RMB).

After leaving the station, we walked to a nearby Cha Chaan Teng (Wah Sao Ice Room) and grabbed a bite. The pan-fried pork chop noodles cost 54 HKD (the exchange rate at the time was 1 HKD = 0.86 RMB). It was quite crowded, and we had to share a table with others. The seats were cramped, and the taste was decent, but not much different from Cha Chaan Tengs in the mainland. Basically all the larger stores accept WeChat Pay/Alipay.

Next, we walked around Victoria Harbour and the Avenue of Stars for a bit, then headed to the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier to take a ferry (Star Ferry) to Central for 6.5 HKD. You can just scan the Alipay ride code, and it automatically converts the exchange rate. After that, we walked to Central MTR station, took the Island Line to Kennedy Town, and snapped some photos at the trendy photo spots. Then we went to a nearby McDonald’s for a simple afternoon tea (I feel like if you want to eat cheaply in Hong Kong, McDonald’s is your only option).

Then we took the MTR to Causeway Bay, strolled around for a bit, and took the Ding Ding (tram) back to Central. After getting off, we walked to the Peak Tram Lower Terminus on Garden Road in Central and took the tram to Victoria Peak. I bought a package ticket on Meituan for 134.7 RMB (Peak Tram round trip + Sky Terrace 428). The price was okay. From the peak observation deck, you can see the entire urban area of Hong Kong. I arrived there past 5 PM, which was a bit early, so I waited up there until 7:30 PM to take pictures of the night view before leaving. After going down to Central, we randomly found a Cha Chaan Teng to eat something (the two of us spent over 200 RMB; a plate of stir-fried broccoli was over 80 HKD, which is honestly a bit expensive). Finally, we took the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui station, bought some medicine at Watsons (Po Chai Pills, Shuang Fei Ren, Wong To Yick…) and walked back to the hotel.

The next day, Sunday (May 31, 2026), I ordered McDonald’s delivery for breakfast using the Hong Kong version of Meituan (KeeTa). After checking out, we visited Tsim Sha Tsui, Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok, and Yau Ma Tei. There’s a digital mall/computer mall in Sham Shui Po, similar to Huaqiangbei in Shenzhen. At noon, we randomly found a Cha Chaan Teng in Mong Kok for lunch, but this time it was a total miss. The price was quite cheap, but it felt like it was all pre-made meals—not fresh and not tasty. We strolled around Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei and felt that Temple Street seemed a bit quiet. Finally, we walked back to West Kowloon high-speed rail station and took the train back to Shenzhen North.
